Throughout the Old and New Testament narratives, we see examples of those who refused to disobey God because their government demanded it. Each time it is done, the consequences of following God are taken willingly.
Paul, when he was taken by the Romans to save him from the Jews, appealed to Caesar. From that time forward, each tome he was examined at the next level up, he gave the gospel. Paul used the Roman government to widely spread the gospel. He didn’t resist the government, but simply used the laws in place to further his mission. Eventually, however, he was executed by that same government.
Our example today, then, is to follow all laws that do not oppose God, but refuse to disobey God in favor of government. As the recriminations for those refusals come, we should always look for opportunities to give the gospel and glorify God.
