Many times when someone barely misses a tragedy, they will attribute their fortune to God. One example of this is when an untied bootlace saved the life of Engelbert Humperdink during the second world war. He said that God must have been looking out for him. But what about the guys who died? Was God not looking out for them? The idea that God is controlling every aspect of every life always leads to some very uncomfortable (and un-Biblical) conclusions.
