Society at large in America is in 
crisis today, largely due to the fact that the church is in crisis today. One of the main reasons the church has fallen into the state that it is in is because we have, in large part, lost sight of our hope.
When one considers what maturity is and compares that to the state of a baby or small child, it can be seen that even worldly hope is a main difference. A baby or small child has no concept of witing for something. They have no concept of what hope is. A mature adult can see that goals and rewards are never immediate.
A huge problem that the church has today is that it wants blessing RIGHT NOW. But Paul has made it clear that our blessings are heavenly and hope is the confident expectation that we will receive those blessings. Our blessings are not carnal, but spiritual. When the church realizes that, it can finally bring to fruition these verses:
Colossians 3:1-3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
