We are all born into a sin-cursed earth. God told Adam: Cursed is the ground for thy sake. If the ground is cursed, there is nothing that you can eat that doesn’t originally come from the ground.
And the thing about the curse is that it’s random. Bad things happen to good people and vice versa because we all live under that curse.
But Paul says that the sufferings of this world are not able to be compared to the glory which will follow. Paul says that these are just light afflictions: and this is Paul, who was beaten, starved, thrown in prison, shipwrecked and so on.
If he said they are but light afflictions, then they are for all of us – when seen against the eternal weight of glory.
