Why Pray (4) – God Repents

Most Christians have a Calvinistic viewpoint when it comes to prayer. Most prayer assumes that God has determined the details of each person’s life and can be moved to change His mind by prayer. Often we hear folk’s say: “God willing,” or “if the Good Lord wills.” Again, this assumes that God is determining everything that is happening, and He is choosing what happens in the intimate details of the lives of believers.

Yet only a limited number of Christians believe themselves to be Calvinists.

One passage often used is how “the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people” when Moses intervened for them in Exodus 32. God said He would destroy Israel and make of Moses a great nation, but Moses interceded for Israel.

But did God’s mind really change?
